Justin Schultz

Chair and Independent Director

Justin is an agricultural engineer and specialist project manager and has been a former Operations Manager of the St George Irrigation Area. Justin is currently operating a cattle property and developing a feedlot facility near St George on the Moonie River with his wife and children. As an engineer he worked as a consulting engineer in the agricultural and mining sectors in intensive livestock and irrigation developments. The projects ranged from traveling irrigators for small dairy farms to the CSG industry delivering bulk water delivery systems for irrigators downstream of the water treatment plants. Project management included the construction of a bridge, pump station refurbishment, referable dam repairs and flood repair works to irrigation networks. Justin’s passion is to deliver out of the box solutions to infrastructure projects. He loves living in St George and wants to see this community thrive and grow.

Luke Stower

Independent Director

Luke is a finance specialist and analyst with extensive experience in the water industry and management of agribusiness operations. Currently Chief Operating Operator at Balonne Plains Pty Ltd, he has expertise in management, leadership, planning negotiations, finance and farming practices including irrigation. As a CPA qualified accountant in both Brisbane and London, Luke gained corporate experience and skills in business optimisation, systems, reporting and stakeholder engagement. He is committed to seeking an option for St George that allows customers of the scheme to more closely align the distribution business to their needs. Luke was chair of the Stage 2 LMA Board and has been a Board member since June 2013.


 

Darren Armstrong

Member Director

Darren and his family operate an irrigated, dryland and cattle enterprise and brings over four decades of first hand experience in the St George Irrigation Area to his role as Managing Director of Manna Farming Pty Ltd. As a second generation irrigation farmer with deep roots in the community, his expertise spans both practical farming knowledge and strategic business acumen. Darren’s property ownership both along the Balonne River and within the Irrigation Area provides him with a comprehensive understanding of irrigation systems that seek to be effective with a strong focus on water use efficiency. With his wealth of experience and commitment to sustainable agriculture, Darren has the ability to make invaluable contributions to both Mallawa Irrigation and the broader agricultural sector.

Louise Hill

Member Director

Louise has been involved in the St George irrigation area as a landholder and water allocation user for 23 years. She currently operates a number of agribusiness enterprises in conjunction with her family. Louise has practised as a CPA qualified accountant since 1995 and is currently the managing director of LH Law, a business based in St George and Brisbane which assists agribusiness and small business families with their legal and business needs. She brings a skill set to the Board from her experience as an agribusiness owner, Lawyer, CPA and Nationally Accredited Mediator. Louise is passionate about contributing to the long-term viability and sustainability of her rural community and the local irrigation industry.




 

Walter Brosnan

Member Director

Walter and his family run a mixed Dryland, Grazing and Irrigation Farm across the St George and Thallon areas. He purchased his farm in the St George Irrigation Area in 2010 and he joined the Mallawa Board in November 2022. He is committed to ensuring that Mallawa is sustainable, a good corporate citizen and is in a good position to pass onto the next generation.

Rohan Thorogood

General Manager

Rohan comes from an extensive water industry background, having held multiple operational and management roles with Seqwater for a period of almost 20 years. Rohan joined SunWater in August 2017 as St George Service Manager. On July 1 2018, Rohan transitioned to the role of General Manager of Mallawa Irrigation.

Alana Brosnan

Company Secretary

Alana works alongside her husband in their family owned and operated cotton farming, grazing and dryland operations across St George and Thallon. A proven stakeholder relations professional with diverse experience from her time at Parliament of Australia in the Senate. Alana joined the Mallawa Irrigation Board in October 2020.
